Miss Red Wing

Ambassador Queen of River City Days

About Our Candidate and Ambassador Program

The Miss Red Wing Organization began in 1965 and continued until 1973.  After a brief hiatus, the program restarted in 1983 in conjunction with Red Wing's River City Days festival and was restructured as a scholarship program based on the Minneapolis Aquatennial Queen of the Lakes program.  Over the past 25 years, the Miss Red Wing program has given over $60,000 in scholarships to its ambassadors!

 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The primary role of the Miss Red Wing Royal Ambassadors is to serve and represent "Pretty Red Wing" at communities across the state as well as volunteering and promoting local events and businesses.  These three young women also volunteer their time by reading to children in local schools, participating in events for local non-profit organizations and businesses, and promoting Red Wing's summer festival River City Days.   At the end of their year of service, each ambassador receives a scholarship to help fund their education.

 LIST OF PAST AMBASSADORS

Each summer, the all-volunteer Miss Red Wing committee members spend time with the  candidates at different events and rehearsals to prepare them for interviews with a panel of judges and also for public appearances throughout the community.  As a committee, we focus on improving lifelong skills such as a candidate's confidence, poise, and public speaking skills for the candidates as well as the royal ambassadors.  We also feel it is important to work with candidates to teach and improve interviewing skills.

AMBASSADOR SELECTION QUALIFICATIONS

On the night of coronation, three young women are selected to serve as goodwill ambassadors and represent "Pretty Red Wing" for one year.  Two Princesses of equal ranking are chosen along with one Queen.  Miss Congeniality is a title also bestowed that night, though this honor comes from the candidates themselves.  Although Miss Congeniality does not travel with the other three ambassadors,  she is still part of the Miss Red Wing family.

The candidate selected as Miss Red Wing also receives the opportunity to visit the Minneapolis Aquatennial's "Best Days of Summer" festival for one week the following summer and vie for the title of Queen of the Lakes.  Click HERE for more information about the Aquatennial Ambassador Organization.
